How to write a novel

Red Dwarf TV Series and Books by Grant & Naylor

The complete series

Red Dwarf hit the small screen around the time I switched off TV for good, which means I've hardly seen any episodes. Commercials, station promos, watermarks in the corners, banner ads for upcoming programs... How is anyone supposed to concentrate with all that going on? Well, thank goodness for books. So far, they haven't worked out how to flash ads across the pages while you're busy reading.

I got hold of Red Dwarf 'Inifinity Welcomes Careful Drivers' after I'd written the first Hal Spacejock book. My first reaction was that it was funny. My second was relief that it wasn't anything like my own writing - no writer wants to end up a carbon copy of another, even if it's unintentional.

One of these days I'll pick up a boxed set of the series, and then I'll have more to report. The only reason I haven't done so is because I have ideas for further Hal books and would have to scratch them if they're already in Red Dwarf.
